2011 saw the grand re-opening of Kirkby Stephen East Station to the public with our Stainmore 150 Event. This was the culmination of 14 years hard work. The work undertaken on the site from 1997 can be seen on the KSE archival website and the following three pictures are of the western end of the station.
The site was used as a bobbin factory prior to 1997 which preserved the station buildings
2010 we had raised enough monies to revamp the gable end in preparation for Stainmore 150
August 2011: Stainmore 150 event with visiting locomotives 78019, the LCLT's J21 No 65033 and our resident Peckett 0-4-0, industrial diesels: Yorkshire Engine No 305 and Hibberd Planet No 3598
The late Iain Robinson maintained and designed a website for the event which provides an historical record of the Stainmore route and the preparations from 2010 - 2011. It can be viewed through the Stainmore 150 link.
Without the support of our volunteers, shareholders and sponsors, this event would not have been possible and we saw over 5,000 visitors during the four days of the event in August 2011.
